What to Expect from Your RCR Health Team

By Patrice Jones, CPC, CWDS

Our Health Team is integrated into every aspect of your drum corps experience. We work in tandem with staff to ensure that nutrition, hydration, hygiene, strength and conditioning, and physical, mental, and emotional health are being addressed. We also see members and staff for all their injury and illness needs and work with home mental health providers to make sure everyone is getting what they need. I also offer performance and health coaching when needed.

Our number one priority is our members and keeping them safe, healthy, and on the field.

You will hear from us and probably see us at least once during the summer. If you sustain an injury, you may see me for taping, daily rehab, and recovery. If you get sick, no worries! We’ve got you covered.

We will ask your pronouns and your preferred name and use those when we interact. We respect your choices and that starts with how you identify. There is only one area where we must use your legal name and that’s in our electronic medical record and anytime you get healthcare from an outside provider. This is a legal issue which we have no control over, and this is on paper only.

What do we need from you?

Completed Medical Eligibility Form. Click here to download a copy.

Any mental health protocols or plans you have in place with your home provider. This may be an action plan for anxiety or panic episodes. Whatever it is, please submit a copy to me at move-ins. All records are confidential.

Bring a 2-3 month supply of all medications and supplements you will be taking this summer.

Read all the information we’re putting out. Read one or two topics a day and internalize as much as possible. My philosophy is to educate you on how your body works and why we’re asking you to do these things. Thinking critically and synthesizing all this information is part of your growth at RCR and as a human being.

Ask questions! If you have concerns, questions, or just don’t understand something, please email me at healthteam@rivercityrhythm.org.

Participate and trust the process. We will be asking you to change how you approach nutrition, hydration, and exercise to prepare you for this summer. Committing to making those changes is part of your job.

Treat all members and staff with kindness and respect.

At RCR, staff use first names to remove any power differential. If you feel comfortable, let us know your pronouns, although, many of us will ask.

We all have feelings, and those feelings are not good or bad, they just are. How you respond to those feelings is what matters.

Remember…this is a process, and we are not asking for perfection. We are asking for excellence which means doing the best you can do, for yourself, your section, and your fellow RCR members.
